My School President Review

Hello random readers, I am starting the year with a review of one of the best shows so far in the year. The series has such a simple plot line but the implementation, entertainment and adorable part of the show made it so captivating. The show is easily one of the best queer shows from Thailand for 2022/2023; it comes highly recommended so read on to see why you should watch the cute story of Gun and Tinn in My School President

Plot

Student body president, Tinn(played by Gemini) has a secret crush on Gun (played by Fourth), the head of the music club and lead singer of the middling band, Chinzhilla. As the son of the principal and school president, Tinn is instructed to axe any club that do not boost their school’s reputation but the music club tops that list.

And so Tinn therefore becomes Gun’s number one enemy. However desperate to save his club, Gun will do anything, even pledge servitude to Tinn. When Tinn learns Chinzhilla has a rule that band members aren’t permitted to date until they win the Hot Wave music contest, Tinn vows to do whatever it takes to help them do just that.

Thoughts About the Show

My School President (MSP) is a 2022 Thai BL adapted from the novel, “My Boyfriend is the President” by Pruesapha. The epic gay musical series is directed by Au Kornprom Niyomsil and it stars rookie actors; Gemini Norawit Titicharoenrak and Fourth Nattawat Jirochtikul as the main leads.

My first thought about the show is that it is a very refreshing one; the plot may seem ordinary i.e something viewers have seen before but the execution is superb with the right amount of comedy, romance, good music, fluffiness and lots of many heart-warming moments. The series paid attention to details and it was so evident because it is the paying attention to little things that makes a good show.

MSP is such a enjoyable show with a mixture of friendship, family, youth drama, sadness& grief and young love or high school crush. It also touched on tough subjects like dealing with homophobia and coming out to family members. All these is cleverly woven together seamlessly into the show.

The main arc is Tinn and Gun. Tinn is a nerdy, a sucker for perfection and is the son of the school principal who has a crush on one of the most unserious boys in the school, Gun. However after several attempts to get Gun’s attention, Tinn finally has a chance when he runs for the school president. He does this for Gun but Gun doesn’t know that so he becomes Gun’s enemy because the school is trying to shut down the Music club which Gun leads. With an excuse, Tinn pairs up with reluctant Gun to try and win a music competition called Hot Wave. As they spend time together, Gun realizes Tinn’s feelings, all he has done for him and Gun falls in love with him as well.

Gemini does a good job as a smart school president who is chasing a very lovable but silly music club leader and Fourth compliments him as well. Tinn and Gun has a healthy relationship and the viewers ultimately know when there is a switch in the relationship thereby showing how their relationship goes progressed as they both had mutual support for each other in their relationship. Other actors also completed them so it was very enjoyable acting from all of the cast.

All the moments in the show has their own importance and impact and the series never gets boring. Apart from Gun and Tinn, another major part of the story are their family and friends; the band members (Sound, Win, Por, Yo, Phat ) Tinn’s best friend (Tiw), Tinn’s cool dad and their moms; the way each mother approaches their son is so different in such a way that will bring tears into your eyes. And so the relationship between each of these people felt so good to watch. The side couples also stole the show in their own little ways.

I am so appreciative of the work the production team put into this because Gun and Tinn were so perfectly written; Fourth and Gemini didn’t even seem like new actors. They had so much visible chemistry and their interactions with gestures didn’t feel like they were forced or inflexible. Apart from the fact Gem and Fourth knows how to make their audience swoon over them as they each embodied the characters and brought them to life together with the rest of the cast, they are both cuties.

Tinn is such a nerd even with the way he flirts but it didn’t fail to leave a smile on Gun and I’s face. It was so sweet whenever Gun reciprocated Tinn’s gestures; their flirting is very addictive and as a viewer, you will be full of smiles each time you see them together.

Another thought I have about the series is about the delightful music used in the show. They were so great that I have my playlist on Spotify just for memorable songs from MSP and I listen to them anytime I feel like it; Fourth & Gemini has such beautiful voices. The songs of the show were all seriously good; they matched the scene and mood they were intended for. The show is about Chinzhilla, a music club and so they didn’t fail in delivering amazing music in each episode. Each of the music also has very deep meaning lyrics. I can’t pick a favorite song at all.

MSP has just 12 episodes and it is available on Youtube, there are also some sweet behind the scenes content for viewers to watch. The sequel titled Our Skyy 2 started filming some days back; there are so many updates on it online. Our Skyy 2 doesn’t just feature Tinn & Gun but also Tinn & Phupha from A Tale of A Thousand Stars, Pran & Pat from Bad Buddy, Khabkluen & Daonuea from Star & Sky: A Star in My Mind, Nuengdiao & Palm from Never Let Me Go, Chay & Gun from A Boss & A Babe, Talay & Puen from Vice Versa and Akk & Ayan from The Eclipse. Fourth & Gemini also star as Li Ming & Heart in an adult show that aired early this year titled The Moonlight Chicken. They were phenomenal in that show as well and it was a overall enjoyable watch, so it is a nice follow up if you want to see more of Fourth & Gem. The show is also my introduction to GMMTV’s Earth and Mix and Khao and First.

Conclusion & Rating

Rating; 10/10

The moment you start watching MSP, you will get lost in the world of Tinn & Gun; it is a terrific watch that makes you wish for that whirlwind romance you haven’t had yet or remember they endearing memories you have experienced like in high school.

What to expect from the show; healthy but beneficial relationships, solid chemistry between cast, excellent music and comedy with character progression.
