So We Watched Thai BL: Triage

After watching KinnPorsche, the next Thai BL I stumbled upon was Triage and I must say that the series took me by surprise which was what made it more pleasant to watch. And unlike KinnPorsche, I didn’t have to wait every week for it. This series offers something completely different than what we are used to and I loved every bit of it.

Plot

Third-year emergency medicine resident Tin has to cope with a deluge of different patients every day. Up until the eighteenth, that is. Tin’s life is transformed when university student Tol’s car is overturned and he’s rushed to the emergency room in serious condition. That night doesn’t end when Tin fails to save Tol’s life, though. When Tin next wakes, he finds himself in a time loop, a loop he won’t be able to leave until he’s altered Tol’s fate.

I must say that I am hooked on Thai BL series because they are mostly good and Triage is one series that isn’t talked about enough. It is a 2022 Thai BL series that was adapted from the web novel of the same name by Sammon. The series is very innovative with a fascinating premise. I love the idea of a doctor who must change history to save a patient’s life; the protagonist embarks on a wild adventure with exciting twists and thrilling suspense. This BL drama about time manipulation is more about how interconnected the lives of different characters in the series can be without them knowing. Along the line, we get to witness two men fall in love, in what might be one of the purest forms of love, a love that nurtures and guides, a love that doesn’t judge.

Despite the fast-paced narrative, Triage does its best to maintain clarity, consistency, and continuity. I am almost tempted to say this series had no flaws but it had a slow start which may discourage an impatient viewer from continuing with the show hereby making them miss the rest of the series while the logic doesn’t always hold up under analysis, the series still makes a positive impression with its endless creativity. And the bottom line is you can forgive a few hiccups amid a consistently entertaining narrative.

Triage has a captivating cast that goes well together. Tin’s actor (Tae Darvid Kreepolrerk) gives an authentic portrayal of a sensible protagonist reacting to extraordinary circumstances. His costar Tol’s actor (Tee Thanapon Jarujitranon) amazes me in the later episodes, Tol’s character development was still the best because we got to see Tol develop from an immature brat to the one that has to save everyone in the final loop. For me Tol redeemed himself. Jinta (the hookup master), Sing & Gap (they were adorable, even though their subplot wasn’t developed), Heart and Mai (I really loved the clarity that the series gave them both so it was quite difficult for me to hate them) and many others also interpret their roles memorably.

The two main leads, Tae and Tee are both fantastic actors and they both had great chemistry. Their relationship is so healthy because they both helped each other heal and become better individuals; Tin corrected Tol with love rather than judgement. You may have watched other time-loop dramas, but they rarely featured a gay couple as the leads like this one. This series successfully weaves the brilliant drama with a charming love story. It takes a while for their attraction to grow but the romance still feels epic as the lovers overcome death, danger and destiny across multiple timelines and loops.

Overall, Triage is so refreshing to see how much effort and detail that was paid to medical terms, procedures, autopsy, surgery, etc.  There were so many real life issues addressed in the show and some of them include; medical malpractice and organ harvesting, the effect of each of our actions, wealth gap and oppression of the poor, bribery and corruption, friendship, forgiveness and second chances and mental health.   I also loved how they tied their stories together and created parallels; there was no scene that was left unexplained, every part was carried fully.

The show challenges the viewers to pick up on complex details to piece together a clever mystery. Each episode surprises you with exciting revelations, character motivations and unexpected chaos. You’ll have fun guessing what might happen next in the unpredictable story.

It also stars; Tonnam Piamchon Damrongsunthornchai, Aob Tanadol Wongsaardsakul, Mild Jinna Pichit-O-Pakun and Morris K.

“Because someone doesn’t love his life, doesn’t mean there aren’t those they love and that love them back. Saving a guy’s life can make a lot of people happy “

Conclusion

10/10. I didn’t want this series to end and it is definitely in my top 5 Thai BL series of this year. Prepare your tissues and popcorn while watching. It has just 13 episodes.

Watch if you enjoyed Manner of Death.
