Produced by Rykeyz, the song is a satisfactory fusion of two intriguing voices, showcasing a cooler RnB that is right for both voices; it also comes with exciting complimentary visuals that showcase the best of Jamaican culture. Ayra has also just released visuals to her new single, Rush.

Asake drops album; Mr Money with the Vibe

Acclaimed Nigerian Afro-pop singer, Ahmed Ololade Asake, professionally known as Asake finally drops an album after a huge run of mega hits titled Mr Money with the Vibe. It has 12 tracks and it features Burna boy and Russ.

Asake immerses the record with his signature Afro-fusion cocktail of Amapiano and Afro Pop and it has quite a replay value as the songs are just 30 mins short. Songs that are on the album include; Sungba, Sungba (Remix), Palazzo, Peace Be Unto You, and Terminator which all peaked on the national music chart.

Odunsi the Engine finally drops another EP

Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer, Bowofoluwa Olufisayo Odunsi, popularly known as Odunsi The Engine, has announced a new project tagged, ‘Denim’

The talented alté singer who has been quiet in the music scene lately has taken to his official social media pages to announce the release date of his forthcoming extended play, ‘Denim’.

Back in 2021, he disclosed he would be dropping his album that year, but that didn’t happen. This comes after the success of ‘Everything You Heard Is True’ in 2020. Taking to his Instagram page on Monday, September 12, he disclosed that the EP will be available for streaming and purchase from Wednesday, 14th September. The album has one feature: 2aab.

Clean Bandit works with Rema and French the Kid in new single

Rema and French the Kid have teamed up with Clean Bandit for a new single titled Sad Girls. The song sees Afrorave pioneer Rema and rapper French combining reflective verses to a laid-back instrumental from the trio.

For Rema, it provides one of the biggest platforms for experimental style, who is still basking in the glory of his debut album, Rave and Roses, which saw features from 6lack, AJ Tracey and Yseult.

Rema makes magic with Selena Gomez on Calm Down remix

Nigerian artist Rema scores his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as his single Calm Down, recently remixed with co-lead Selena Gomez debuts at No. 91.

Divine Ikubor dropped the original version of the song in February as the second single from his debut solo Rave & Roses. The remix with Gomez arrived Aug. 26, and that version’s official video premiered Sept. 7.

Rema becomes the first Afrobeat artiste to perform at Rolling Loud while Wizkid headlines

Rolling Loud is one of the world’s largest rap festivals. It has been dubbed the “be-all” of hip-hop events since its inception in 2015. The be-all is finally coming to Toronto and Rema performed on its opening date which was on September 5 while Wizkid became the first African act to play headline act at the Rolling Loud event. Other artistes that performed include; Central Cee, Dave, Future, Nav, etc.

Burna Boy appears on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight show

Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known professionally as Burna Boy was a musical guest on an episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Burna Boy was seen having a chat with the host Jimmy Fallon who conducted an interview with the singer.

One of the highlights of the episode was when Burna Boy tried to show him (Fallon) how to do his signature moon-walk dance. He later takes the stage to perform “Last Last,” a popular song from the “Love, Damini” album.

Nicki Minaj, Kodak Black, Tems and others to headline Dual PowerHouse Event

Nicki Minaj, Moneybagg Yo and Kodak Black are some of the names announced to be performing at a pair of Powerhouse events set to take place this month. Powerhouse 2022 has announced its live music event will return to Philadelphia and New Jersey this October 28 and 29 respectively.

The New Jersey lineup so far includes performances from Kodak Black, Fivio Foreign, Moneybagg Yo, Tems and SpinKing with more to be announced at a later date.

“PHILLY WTF IS GOOD???!!?!??!!” Nicki wrote in a tweet alongside a poster for the Philly event.

Nicki Minaj makes first solo debut with Super Freaky

Nicki Minaj has finally landed the first solo No. 1 single of her career on the Billboard Hot 100 with her new song Super Freaky Girl. Even though she’s reached the peak position with other artists like Doja Cat (Say So) and controversial rapper 6ix9ine (Trollz), Minaj’s latest feat marks the first time in her 13-year career that she has climbed to the chart’s summit on her own.

Billboard also reported that Super Freaky Girl is the first hip-hop song by a solo woman with no accompanying acts to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s Doo Wop (That Thing) did so in 1998. Congrats to her.

Headies 2022; Wizkid bags awards while Buju wins Next Rated

The annual Headies took place on September 4th in Atlanta, United States of America. The 15th edition of the Headies celebrated the best in the Nigerian music industry and Grammy award-winning singer Wizkid and Tems were the top winners at the Headies, held at Atlanta, marking the first time the show has been hosted outside Nigeria while Bnxn fka Buju won the Next Rated category taking home a Bentley.

Winners at the event include; Made In Lagos (Deluxe Edition) won album of the year, Essence by Wizkid and Tems won Best R&B single and song of the year, Arya Starr bagged the Digital artiste of the year and Headies Viewer’s Choice, Tems also won the Best R&B album and Best Female Artiste while Burna Boy won the male version of the award who also bagged the African Artiste of the Year category, Fave won the Rookie of the Year award and Olamide won the Best Rap Album category. Davido bagged the award for Humanitarian award of the year.  

VMAs 2022

As the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards attempts to return to normalcy after last year’s semi-virtual show, they brought back some old traditions. The Video Vanguard Lifetime Achievement award returns after a two-year-break to honour Nicki Minaj, 2021’s Global Icon Award also makes a return.

Taylor Swift and Lil Nas X lead this year’s winners with three Moon People each. Jack Harlow is up there with them with three wins, one for “First Class” and two for “Industry Baby” with Lil Nas X.

Other winners include: Artiste of the year: Bad Bunny, Group of the year: BTS, Album of the year; Harry’s house, As It Was by Harry Styles as Best Pop, Song of summer: First Class, Best Collaboration, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects: Industry Baby with Jack Harlow, Best Hip Hop-Do We Have a problem, Best KPop Lisa-Lalisa, Best Meta Verse Performance- BlackPink PUBG, etc.

BET awards 2022

The BET Awards celebrates the performances in music, film, television and sports that have made the biggest impact on culture over the past year and the 22nd annual ceremony was not an exception.

Winners at the event include: Album of the year; An Evening With Silk Sonic, Silk Sonic, Best Collaboration: Essence, Wizkid Feat. Justin Bieber & Tems, Best International Act; Tems, Best Movie; King Richard, Best Actor and Actress; Will Smith and Zendaya respectively, Best New Artiste; Latto. Fireboy and Pheelz both delivered impressive performances.

Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema and Ruger links up at 2022 Dior Fashion show

Nigerian Grammy Award-winning singers, Burna Boy and Wizkid were spotted together as the duo linked up at the Dior fashion show in Los Angeles, US. Wizkid was also spotted with Rema, Ruger and Naomi Campbell at the show.

Wizkid releases first single of the year

Nigerian singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly called Wizkid recently dropped his new single ‘Bad To Me.’ Following the release of his album Made in Lagos which is a global hit album that has been topping charts since its release in 2020. The song is jointly produced by P2J and Sammy Soso. The single incorporates elements such as crowd vocals and Ampiano.

Wizkid is also set to take on Madison Square Garden for the first time becoming the second Africa artiste to do so.

A three-day celebration of Afrobeats will see Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Wizkid headline concerts on different days while other global artists such as Megan Thee Stallion, Popcaan, and Chris Brown are also part of the performance roster.

The festival commenced on July 1, with Davido, Popcan and PSquare while Wizkid and Chris Brown took over on the 2nd day and Burna Boy closed the curtains on the Sunday, 3rd July alongside Megan Thee Stallion. Other Nigerian artists that performed at the Afro Nation include Rema, CKay, Naira Marley, Omah Lay, Kizz Daniel, BNXN fka Buju, Tekno and more.

Nonso Amadi drops singles after hiatus

Following the release of the 2019 ‘Free’ EP, Nonso Amadi made the conscious decision to step away from social media and hold the release of music reportedly to take a deeper dive into his artistry and separate from noise and distraction. Today, the Canadian-based Afro-R&B, soul singer, songwriter and producer from Nigeria, makes a return with the new track Foreigner.

After the premiere of the Foreigner music video, he proudly followed up with the YouTube Red Carpet video premiere of his latest track, “Different” featuring R&B duo Majid Jordan and Eye to Eye produced by himself and assisted by Goldchain.

Megan and She hulk

Megan Thee Stallion guest-starred in Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series on Disney+. The rapper appeared briefly in the third episode of the show, first as a shape shifting elf that takes the form of Megan Thee Stallion to defraud an associate of She-Hulk. During the trial of said liar, the rapper appeared as herself to jeer the elf. “There’s only one Megan Thee Stallion,” she declares before delivering her signature tongue-out taunt (“Ah!”).

A post-credits scene features the rapper hiring She-Hulk played by Tatiana Maslany as her lawyer and together, they twerk in celebration to Body. The She-Hulk cameo is the part of the rapper’s venture into acting. Earlier this year she appeared as Tina Show in Starz’s P-Valley and will star in the upcoming A24 musical comedy Fucking Identical Twins alongside Bowen Yang,

Davido takes PUMA runway

The Stand Strong singer, Davido recently walked the runway and was joined by other notable public figures including renowned Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt and Canadian supermodel Winnie Harlow as they walked for Puma.

Puma made its grand return to New York Fashion Week after a five-year hiatus to showcase its new collection, and Davido, who is also a leading ambassador of the sports brand, walked the runway in support of its “Futrograde” show.

PNB Rock dies at 30 after being robbed

Los Angeles rapper, PnB Rock has been shot dead during a robbery in Los Angeles. Rock had been at the restaurant with his girlfriend who before the incident posted a location-tagged photo in a since-deleted Instagram post.

All of the suspects involved in the murder of PnB Rock have been arrested and charged, which include a father, his teenage son and the father’s wife, you can read more on this.
