KinnPorsche The Series: The BL series of 2022

After being delayed for a few years, KinnPorsche The Series La Forte finally got released in April 2022 by BeOnCloud. The series was adapted from the popular web novel of the same name by writing duo Daemi. It is a Thai action romance drama series that stars Mile Phakphum Romsaithong as Kinn and Apo Nattawin Wattanagitiphat as Porsche.

The series ended in July but I took my time to read the book after watching the series in order to compare and contrast some facts in the book and the series.

PLOT

Kinn, the second son of a Mafia boss, is being hunted by enemies when he’s rescued by Porsche, a student working part-time at a pub. Kinn offers Porsche a job as his personal bodyguard which leads to a dangerous love between them.

Kinnporsche is one of the most beloved Thai BoyLove (BL) series and it is easy to see why. The series is quite different from the average Thai BL series as it deviates from the usual high school and university themed storyline. The series is now enjoying a well earned global success due to the fact that the cast and crew paid attention to their international audience.

The whole cast did a great job delivering their specific roles and it was so good to see how hard each of them worked to give their best performances; there are some similarities between the book and the series even though the series is such an excellent adaptation. If you haven’t read the book, there are some spoilers ahead.

  • The death of Khun’s fishes; Elizabeth and Sabastian. Although the way Porsche was punished in the series was tweaked a bit, it was still the same. That scene will always be funny.
  • The cast were spot on with the characters. They all acted so brilliantly and they all brought the characters to life. The crew also did their best in bringing the book to the best version of reality, they were all spot on.
  • Pete’s “funeral” and him coming back during Khun’s pretend ritual. This actually happened, in the book, Khun did a ritual for some days after he thought Pete died. Pete escaped a few days after the ritual started unlike the series where Pete came back on the same day the ritual started. The scene was funny both in the book and the series.
  • Khun. He was responsible for most of the comedic moments both in the book and series due to his PTSD from a childhood abduction. Tong bodied this character and I could immediately see similarities with Khun in the series and the book.
  • Kinn and Porsche’s kidnap. Although they were also kidnapped in the book, they weren’t handcuffed together like the series. The book gave more in depth to the characters during this period and that experience was the turning point of their relationship both in the book and series.
  • The traitor in the book was Big while in the series the traitor is Ken. One detail that was changed was the fact the Big died in the hands of Tawan, this didn’t happen in the book.
  • Pete and Vegas’s story. Their story happened exactly like the book; close to the end. The events leading up to the capture was tweaked a bit but it was so similar to the book; Pete was captured by Vegas when he went to get evidence in Vegas’s room exactly like the series. But in the book, Vegas used him as a sex toy before their feelings got involved.

Also the dynamics of Vegas and Pete wasn’t rushed but it could have been more. Build and Bible acted well as Pete and Vegas respectively and they have the second lead syndrome because of their unique storyline. One thing that happened in the book that wasn’t included in the series was at the end of the book, during the fight between the major and minor families Vegas ordered his men not to touch Pete so they were all passing him like a breeze.

  • The series actually toned down a lot of things like; PeteVegas’s and KinnPorsche’s first time.
  • In the book, KimChay was actually KimChe but the series gave more in depth to their story.
  • One thing is very constant in the book which is the fact that Kinn was head over heels in love with Porsche even though he made some bad decisions.
  • Porsche’s birthday. Details of this scene was changed in the book and I can’t choose which scene was better between the series and book because they were both nice.
  • KinnPorsche’s date. That didn’t happen in the book.
  • Another thing that made KinnPorsche exceptional was Bible Wichapas Sumettikul speaking English; he really played the role of Vegas very well even for a rookie actor and his English accent was so good and sexy.
  • They retained most of the roles except for Tawan’s brother and Kim’s bodyguard, Anon.
  • The soundtracks of the series are well composed and pleasing to the ears. Barcode and Jeff’s track, The Slot Machine and other tracks from the series all sound nice.
  • Nampheumg; Porsche’s mother. Details surrounding Porsche’s mom were changed because in the book she remained dead after all the secrets came to light but in the series she was kept alive by Korn probably for another sick plan of his. We never find out the real villain as every version of the story is unreliable.
  • Vegas, Kinn and Kim has been referred to by BL lovers as Tsundere.

Whatever you’re looking for, KinnPorsche has it. Mile and Apo’s chemistry oozes off the screen due to the fact that they were friends before the series started filming. Their interactions sways from sweet to sexy which easily sells the relationship. The series is sexy as hell given the fact that the two cousins; Kinn and Vegas are both horny people.

At the beginning of their relationship, there are some consent issues with Kinn taking advantage of a drugged Porsche. One fact that was gotten from the book was that Porsche might have been given a drug that heightened his sexual urges. (Kinn isn’t the one who drugged him, in case that was something you might be worried about), but they both dealt with it adequately with what happened and moved past it. Kinn apologizes multiple times for his actions while Porsche admits to being confused about everything.

There are also some serious action scenes because it is mafia themed; someone gets shot within the first ten minutes; there’s a traitor in the main family, and he’s dealt with in a mafia manner, there is torture and multiple shootouts as Kim has a fight scene near the end of the series that was so great. In the book; Kim was always protecting Chay. There is just a lot of this series that is really well done.
