Review of The Maidens

Looking for a thriller and suspenseful book that has a spice of greek mythology in it? Look no further, the perfect book is here.

About the book?

The Maidens is about Mariana, a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes involved in a murder case when her niece Zoe, calls her from school that her friend, one of the Maidens, was murdered in Cambridge. She meets Edward and is strongly convinced that he is the murder despite his strong alibis, but why would a professor target his students and use them to perform the returning rites of Persephone and her journey to the underworld? Mariana is determined to prove that Edward is the murder even if it costs her, her life.

What I enjoyed about the book?

The plot. The plot totally threw me off. It had so many twists and turns. The book had depth too. It was entertaining and memorable for me. The book was kind of slow at the beginning but it picked up at the middle.

Mariana was a lovely character as well, she was smart and she could read people. She is a rich woman due to a large inheritance and she threw herself into finding the truth, she willingly put herself in danger and barely escaped.

The book was vivid. The book was so detailed about Cambridge. Reading the book will feel like you are there in Cambridge with Mariana. The book also had more in depth to Persephone and her mother, Demeter. It is a thriller book with a mix of greek mythology in it.

The book is another book from the author of Silent Patient. Another one yet he doesn’t disappoint with his novels.

Final Thoughts:

It is a good recommendation, if you want a good read. 4 stars.
